The game was played on 24th August 2013 and it was a fine sunny day. The proceedings started around 1.30pm with the “A” Grade Grand Final between Hornibrooks Harlequins and Consort Royals.
The “A” grade match was officiated by a home town referee from the Defence club and Harlequins walked away as the winners with a 2 points margin score line of 7 – 5. It was also a close encounter in the Premier grade grand final which was officiated by a referee from Port Moresby that was brought in by M.R.F.U. The game saw Harlequins and Royals do battle for the top spot. Harlequins won 10 – 7.
Prize money for the winner of the “A” grade was K700 and the runner up was K500 also the man of the match got K100. For the Premier grade the winner got K1000 and the runner up got K800 also the man of the match got K100. On top of the prize money we gave trophies and medals.
The match went well with extra security, we paid the Police K1000 to provide on ground security and we paid the Defence force K750 to look after the entrance and gate takings. The Port Moresby referees’ airfares, accommodation, meal and match payment was paid for by M.R.F.U. The total was K1600. As for the local referee we paid him K100. There was a doctor on stand by and we paid him K100 for his services. We also had little refreshments (Soft drinks and water) at the official box for sponsors and guests totalling K200. Trophies and medals cost was K200
In all M.R.F.U used K7500 to run a successful grand final.
